Transfusions: Plasma, Blood & Antivenom

dots

At AESC, we specialize in intensive transfusion treatments that are critical in times of severe medical need.

Just like humans, our beloved pets may require blood and plasma transfusions to recover from various conditions. These transfusions are essential for treating severe anemia, supporting surgery recovery, managing severe trauma, or treating certain illnesses that hinder the body’s ability to properly clot blood. Our clinic is also uniquely equipped to handle cases involving venomous snake bites, a significant risk in our region of Arkansas. We carry a variety of antivenoms to rapidly respond to bites from local venomous snakes, including the Copperhead, Cottonmouth, and various species of rattlesnakes. These antivenoms are crucial as they work by neutralizing the venom, reducing the progression of symptoms, and improving recovery outcomes.

In emergency situations, we also perform autotransfusion, a procedure where blood is collected from the patient’s abdomen (typically after trauma) and then re-infused back into the patient. This technique can be lifesaving in cases of severe blood loss when donor blood is not immediately available. It helps stabilize the patient while minimizing complications that may arise from the use of foreign blood products.

As one of the few clinics in the area with comprehensive capabilities for administering these lifesaving treatments, AESC stands prepared to provide critical care when your pet needs it the most. Our dedication to maintaining a full stock of specialized blood products, antivenoms, and emergency equipment ensures that we are ready to respond at a moment’s notice, offering a beacon of hope in urgent situations.
